Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 84 runs from 42 balls for Afghanistan in the 188-run chase against South Africa in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group D match in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 11) and then smacked three back-to-back sixes off Keshav Maharaj’s bowling in the second super over to keep Afghanistan’s hopes of winning the match alive. But on the last ball of the second super over, he got dismissed. Hours after his heroic efforts with the bat failed to help Afghanistan secure a famous win over South Africa at Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday (February 11), Gurbaz took to Instagram to share a picture collage of him putting his head down in disappointment and accompanied it with an emotional caption in which he stated that on Wednesday his team
gave everything they had and fought till last moment but it wasn’t their day.
“Every match teaches us something. Today, we gave everything we had and fought till the very last moment, but it wasn’t our day. Still, your love and support mean more to us than words can say. We’re grateful for each one of you who stands with us through every high and low. We’ll learn, improve, and come back stronger than ever. Together, always”, Gurbaz captioned the Instagram post.

Gurbaz’s emotional post is now going viral on the internet.
Gurbaz, who is one of the most exciting Afghanistani batters, did everything in his capacity to win the match against South Africa and keep Afghanistan alive in the T20 World Cup 2026, but he failed.
The defeat in the second Super over against South Africa in Ahmedabad has now pushed Afghanistan closer to elimination from the T20 World Cup 2026. Though they are still alive in the race to qualify for the Super 8s but their fate is in no longer in their own hands.
Apart from winning their remaining two Group D matches of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the United Arab Emirates and Canada by very big margins, they have to make sure that one out of South Africa or New Zealand lose both their matches, chances of which are very low.
