England Drop Star Fast Bowler For Third Test Against Pakistan

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) took to X on Wednesday (September 2) to announce England’s 15-member squad for the third and final Test of the ongoing three-match series against Pakistan. For the fixture scheduled to take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham from September 9, the ECB have dropped fast bowler Matthew Fisher from the squad. Fisher did not feature in either of the two matches of the ongoing series for the hosts.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Brydon Carse, who was dropped from the squad ahead of the second Test due to an incident that led to his arrest last month, has not been considered. In Carse’s place, Sonny Baker was added to England’s squad for the second Test, and he has retained his spot for the third match as well.

England squad for third Test: Joe Root (C), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Sam Cook, Jordan Cox, Ben Duckett, Emilio Gay, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue

While England have dropped only one player from their squad, Pakistan have made seven changes to their squad. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dropped as many as seven players on Monday following the team’s humiliating 194-run defeat in the second Test at Lord’s.

Salman Ali Agha, who captained Pakistan in the series opener, has been axed along with wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, spinner Ali Usman, pacer Khurram Shahzad, all-rounder Aamer Jamal, opening batter Imam-ul-Haq and Muhammad Awais Zafar.

Left-handed top-order batter Saim Ayub has been called up as a replacement, along with Abdullah Fazal, while there are five uncapped players as well.

Left-arm spinner Arafat Minhas, fast bowlers Mohammad Imran Jr, Mohammad Imran and Razaullah, and wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig will join the squad ahead of the third Test.
