Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan appeared frustrated as his team took off with multiple hiccups against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday evening at the Eden Gardens. Thanks to the persistent rains, the game was halted in the 4th over with the hosts accumulating 22 runs after losing 2 wickets.
KKR endured a torrid start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. They began their campaign with a 6-wicket defeat to the Mumbai Indians, despite scoring 200-plus at Wankhede Stadium last week. They bit the dust again, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 65 runs in what was their first home fixture this season.
Even on Monday, Rahane & Co. again failed to find stability at the top, slipping early against the Punjab Kings after choosing to bat.
Finn Allen and Cameron Green departed for low scores, putting KKR under pressure almost immediately. The innings had barely settled when rain intervened after 3.4 overs, with the scoreboard reading 25/2 and skipper Ajinkya Rahane alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi trying to steady things in the middle.
During the weather interruption, television cameras repeatedly cut to co-owner Shah Rukh Khan, who appeared deep in conversation with the franchise’s CEO, Venky Mysore. The video has now gone viral on social media.

The decision to bat first on a dry Eden surface, taken as KKR hunted their first victory of the campaign, quickly backfired. Xavier Bartlett produced a sharp new-ball burst, striking twice in three deliveries to jolt the hosts. Using disciplined lines and exploiting both swing and seam movement, the Australian fast bowler dismissed the two overseas stars, Finn Allen (6) and Cameron Green (4), the latter having been bumped up to No. 3 in the order.
Green, bought as the most expensive overseas signing at Rs 25.20 crore, extended his lean patch with another failure, adding to earlier scores of 18 (against Mumbai Indians) and 2 (Sunrisers Hyderabad). His struggles mirrored KKR’s broader woes, with the team already under scrutiny after defeats in their first two matches of the season.
At 25/2, Rahane (8) and young wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi (7) were attempting to rebuild the innings.
Eden Gardens, fitted with comprehensive ground covers, saw its ground staff respond quickly once the rain intensified. They moved efficiently to protect the entire square and outfield, ensuring every portion of the playing area was shielded from the worsening conditions.
A short window of respite arrived when the rain eased, and the covers started to be peeled off, hinting at a possible resumption. However, the weather turned again, this time more severe, as rain returned, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The repeated delays tested the patience of those in the stands, many of whom chose to head for the exits.
The contest had already drawn a relatively modest crowd by Eden standards, with only 29,358 spectators present, a figure likely influenced by the Monday scheduling and the gloomy, overcast skies that hung over Kolkata throughout the evening.
