Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India are set to embark on their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on Sunday, facing Pakistan in their first group-stage game at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Ahead of the clash, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video featuring members of the senior men’s team extending their wishes to the Women in Blue.
Former captain Rohit Sharma said, “They have been playing really good cricket for the last few years now. I know in T20 cricket, they have come pretty close. This time around, I want them to go all the way.”
Head coach Gautam Gambhir added, “I’m sure you are going to make 140 Crore Indians proud. Not many get the opportunity to represent the country on the world stage.”
India’s ODI and Test skipper Shubman
Gill said, “You guys have done it before, and you’ll do it again.”
T20I captain Shreyas Iyer urged the team to play with intent, saying, “Be fearless, ruthless, and just play to win.”

India Firm Favourites Against Pakistan
India aim to add a T20 title to their ODI World Cup triumph last year and hold a dominant 13-3 head-to-head record over Pakistan. The women in blue head into the tournament with mixed form. Impressive series wins over Australia, England, and Sri Lanka, but also setbacks against South Africa and England that exposed inconsistencies at the top. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali have struggled for runs recently, making their role crucial.
Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, in excellent all-round form, poses a major threat. India, however, will bank on Harmanpreet’s return to form, along with contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, and Deepti Sharma to ensure a strong start.
