As per HT sources, Varanasi is one of the most talked-about projects and is the hottest property in the streaming market. OTT giants are going all out to secure their rights, and naturally, this has already started a bidding war. According to the portal’s trade sources, platforms are considering paying amounts as high as for any Hollywood film, with the final figure potentially reaching Rs 1,000 crore.
If it comes to fruition, this would set a new record for
pre-sale collections for an Indian film based solely on digital rights. Combined with music, TV, and distribution rights, Varanasi is poised to become the largest-scale Indian film ever.
About SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi
Earlier, a report by The Citizen from Tanzania claimed that Varanasi revolves around a “rugged explorer” fighting an enemy to protect the world. “Inspired by Indiana Jones and African adventure classics, the film follows a rugged explorer who sets out on a high-stakes mission through uncharted terrain, battling nature, mystery, and a powerful enemy to uncover a long-lost secret that could change the world,” the synopsis of the movie, as per the Tanzanian media portal.
SS Rajamouli recently announced the title of his upcoming magnum opus starring Priyanka Chopra and Mahesh Babu at a grand event at Ramoji Film City. Industry rumours suggest that SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu’s mega-action adventure Varanasi’s trailer might be featured with Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Varanasi’s Controversy
A title dispute has emerged after producer Subba Reddy claimed he registered the title Varanasi two years ago. This has led to legal complications, and the makers may have to tweak the name. One solution being discussed is releasing the Telugu version as Rajamouli’s Varanasi to maintain the identity while also avoiding conflicts. Despite the legal issue, the movie’s original title has already been widely promoted, and the team looks determined to keep it intact.
