With Border 2 gearing up for its theatrical release later this month, the makers recently hosted a grand launch of the film’s emotional track Ghar Kab Aaoge in Jaisalmer. The event saw lead actor Varun Dhawan reflecting on the legacy of the original Border (1997), his long-standing desire to portray a soldier on screen, and India’s recent military actions that underline the relevance of war films even today.
‘Border Made Me Want To Play A Soldier’
Speaking at the event, Varun Dhawan recalled how JP Dutta’s Border deeply impacted an entire generation and shaped public perception of the armed forces. He shared that after watching the 1997 war classic, he had always hoped to play a character connected to the Indian military.
According to Varun, the
bravery, emotional strength and sacrifice shown in Border stayed with audiences long after they left the theatre. He credited Sunny Deol’s performance and the film’s storytelling for embedding that sense of courage in people’s hearts. The actor admitted that he never imagined he would one day be part of the sequel to a film that influenced him so profoundly. Varun Dhawan On Operation Sindoor And Youth Awareness
During the launch, Varun also noticed posters referencing India’s Operation Sindoor and spoke about their significance. He said that while India believes in peace, it is equally important to remind the younger generation that the country has the strength and resolve to respond firmly to threats when necessary.
He emphasised that films like Border serve a larger purpose beyond entertainment, helping young audiences understand the importance of national security, sacrifice and preparedness. According to Varun, such stories remain relevant because they reinforce the idea that peace must be protected with strength.
Remembering Soldiers Who Laid Down Their Lives
Last year, Varun Dhawan had also paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives during India’s retaliation strike. Sharing a heartfelt Instagram story, he wrote, “We are here only because of u,” alongside images of fallen personnel, including Jawan Murali Naik, BSF SI Md Imteyaz, Gunner Dinesh Sharma, Sepoy Sachin Yadav, Airman Kamal Kamboj, Sepoy Amit Chaudhary, IAF Sergeant Surendra Mogra and Sepoy Suraj Yadav.
