After spending more than 10 years together, Courteney Cox and musician Johnny McDaid have reportedly decided to go their separate ways. While neither of them has publicly commented on the reports, people close to the former couple say the breakup was peaceful and that they continue to share a strong bond.
According to the Mail on Sunday, the couple quietly ended their relationship late last year. The report states that the decision was mutual, with both realising that their lives had gradually taken different directions.
A friend of the former couple told the publication that there was no bad blood between them and that they continue to care deeply for one another.
“Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney. They had a very deep relationship
and they remain extremely amicable. They are great friends and care about each other very much. This was not an ugly split. They had simply reached a point where they were living different lives.”
One of the biggest challenges in their relationship was reportedly the distance. Courteney, best known for playing Monica Geller in Friends, is based in Los Angeles, while McDaid has spent much of his time in London. Over the years, the two divided their time between the US and the UK.
The couple first began dating in 2013 after being introduced through mutual friends, including Ed Sheeran. They got engaged a year later in 2014 but briefly split in 2015. They reunited in 2016 and remained together for nearly another decade.
The Mail on Sunday also reported that both have now moved on with their lives. McDaid is said to be in the early stages of a new relationship, although no further details have been revealed.
The pair were last seen together in public during the US Open in September. A month earlier, they had enjoyed a double date in Malibu with Jennifer Aniston and wellness expert Jim Curtis.
Courteney was also recently spotted in New York with her Shining Vale co-star Greg Kinnear. However, the report noted that the two are just friends despite playing husband and wife on screen.
McDaid, who has been a member of Snow Patrol since 2011, is currently busy with the band’s summer tour across the UK.
According to the Mail on Sunday, representatives for both Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid were contacted for comment, but neither had responded at the time the report was published.
