Pichukalanka (Andhra Pradesh), Apr 4 (PTI) Three students drowned in the Godavari River in Konaseema district on Saturday, a police official said.
Kothapeta Sub-Divisional Police Officer S Murali Mohan said a group of four students had gone for a swim in the evening when three were swept away by the river’s strong current. One student managed to survive.
“Three engineering students were washed away in the Godavari River near the Dowleshwaram Barrage,” Mohan told PTI.
Police have retrieved one body, while two others are still missing.
The students, he said, hailed from the Jampeta area, Rajahmundry.
The Godavari River at Pichukalanka in Atreyapuram mandal is considered dangerous, with many people visiting the site for bathing and swimming.
Police said
the students were swept away at around 6 pm, and authorities are registering a case of accidental drowning and missing persons in the river. PTI STH SSK
