A travel content creator’s video showcasing the vibrant Indian influence in Guyana, South America, has taken the internet by storm. The clip highlights how deeply Indian culture is woven into everyday life in the country, so much so that many viewers claim it feels “more Indian” than several Indian cities.
In the viral video, creator Anuvind walks through the streets of Guyana, capturing scenes that strongly reflect Indian traditions.
Indian Culture Thriving in Guyana
He films Peter Hall’s Mandir, posters promoting a Bollywood Mega Show, multiple temples, and shops stacked with familiar Indian snacks like Chana Dal, Khatta Meetha Mix Chanachur and Lahsun Sev. The video further shows Indian designer boutiques, and even cows grazing in open fields,
similar to India.
Sharing the reel, Anuvind wrote, “This isn’t India, it’s GUYANA! From Bollywood music blasting in shops, to mandirs, masjids, and even Diwali being a national holiday. I found more desi culture here than back home! 122 countries in, and this one totally surprised me. Who knew South America had such strong Indian roots?”

Social Media Users Expressed Amazement
The video sparked an outpouring of comments from viewers across the world, with many sharing the reason behind this population in unexpected corners of the world.
“Primarily because Guyana has strong Caribbean ties culturally and politically, which explains the heavy Indian influence more than its South American geography,” remarked a user.
Another suggested, “You need to pop across to Trinidad and Tobago next you would be surprised how strong the Indian culture is here!”
“This is pretty cool! I am Indo-Guyanese… My desi friends and I always talk about traditions and it’s safe to say that Guyanese, Trinis and likely others have kept the Indian traditions close to heart and similar to the old days because it’s the only thing the Brits couldn’t take from them!” shared a user.
An individual stated, “Random cows around is a vibe! Guyana is basically a little India.”
“Most of the Indians were taken by the British for forced labour there .. it’s also a sad memory of displacement,” read a comment.
A user said, “You 100% need to come to South Africa then. It is a lot like this in Durban.”
“Beautiful fusion of Caribbean – African culture with Indian roots,” added another.
People also suggested some other places like South Africa’s Durban and Trinidad that have such Indian influence.
