Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has said that it has been an intense week where sadness was mixed with joy, adding that he is sorry for not being able to give the fans back home another trophy and yet another moment of elation.
Scaloni lauded his footballers for their fighting spirit, saying that the Argentina team proved they would never give up and gave their all in every game.
Taking to social media, Scaloni said that he needed a week to process Argentina’s FIFA World Cup final loss to Spain. He apologised to the fans for falling short in the tournament but lauded his footballers for their commitment and effort throughout the campaign.
“After an intense week where sadness mixed with joy, tears with smiles, anxiety with peace and nerves with calm,
I can finally sit down and write a few words. Even though you all know I am not someone who likes social media very much, maybe this is the best way to reach you,” Scaloni wrote on Instagram.

“The first thing I want to say is that I am sorry we could not bring you another trophy and give you another reason to be happy, even if it was only for a few days and help you forget about life’s difficult moments,” Scaloni said.
The coach added that the Lionel Messi-led Argentina team never accepted a loss and continued fighting until the final whistle.
