Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee recently caught up with actor R Madhavan for a round of golf in Dubai, and their easy camaraderie has become a talking point among fans. The cricketer shared a series of pictures from their sporting outing on Instagram and praised Madhavan not just as an actor, but also as a person off screen.
Sharing the photos, Brett Lee wrote, “Great to finally get a round in with @actormaddy. One of the most respected actors going around, and turns out a genuinely top bloke off screen too. Good company, decent swing, looking forward to the next one mate.”
Madhavan was quick to return the compliment. He replied, “The feeling is so very mutual Chief. Except your swing is a subject
of great envy. Until next time,” along with a smiley emoticon.
The warm exchange between the two soon caught fans’ attention, with many praising their bond. The photos from their golf session also went viral on social media.
Brett Lee And R Madhavan’s Golf Outing Goes Viral
Brett Lee and R Madhavan’s Dubai golf outing brought together two beloved names from cricket and cinema. While Lee is remembered as one of Australia’s fastest and most charismatic bowlers, Madhavan remains one of Indian cinema’s most admired actors, known for his work across Hindi and Tamil films.
Their pictures from the golf course showed the two enjoying a relaxed day away from their professional commitments. Lee’s caption, in particular, stood out for its admiration of Madhavan, whom he called “one of the most respected actors going around” and a “genuinely top bloke off screen.”
Madhavan’s response added to the charm of the exchange, as he praised Lee’s golf swing and called it a matter of envy. The banter between the two has delighted fans, who were happy to see the actor and the former cricketer bonding over sport.
R Madhavan’s Love For Golf
For those who follow R Madhavan closely, his golf outing with Brett Lee is hardly surprising. The actor has often spoken about his deep love for the sport and the role it has played in his life. In fact, Madhavan has previously credited golf with helping him stay centred both personally and professionally.
Speaking to SGL in an earlier interaction, Madhavan had said, “It literally saved my career. It’s also been instrumental in making me get in touch with myself to understand who I really am. And more importantly, spend four to five hours in a day constructively without having to distract myself to play a game that I thoroughly love and I’m grateful to.”
The actor also drew a connection between golf and acting, saying both demand focus, control and the ability to shut out distractions.
“At that time to eliminate all these distractions, to be able to dive deep within yourself and touch that one emotion that you want to show on the face and touch it at the time when the director calls action is exactly akin to hitting a proper, pure golf shot,” he said.
Madhavan went on to describe the act of taking a golf shot in almost meditative terms. “For me, to be able to focus, pinpoint and then, you know, give myself that one shot is akin to giving a shot in front of the camera,” he said. He also added that the moment between beginning a backswing and striking the ball is “closest to Nirvana” for him.
During the same conversation, Madhavan had shared that he joined the Super Golf League because he was “tired of playing exhibition golf” and wanted to test himself at a more competitive level. “I would love to be considered a serious golfer one of these days,” he said.
Brett Lee’s India Connect Beyond Cricket
Brett Lee, too, has had a long and warm association with India beyond cricket. Apart from his many memorable performances on the field, Lee has often connected with Indian audiences through entertainment and music.
He collaborated with legendary singer Asha Bhosle on the song “Haan Main Tumhara Hoon,” which became a widely discussed cross-cultural collaboration at the time. Later, he also made his acting debut in Anupam Sharma’s 2015 romantic comedy UnIndian. The film starred Lee as Will Henderson opposite Tannishtha Chatterjee and also featured Supriya Pathak and Akash Khurana.
His friendship with Indian artists and his fondness for the country have made him a familiar figure among fans even after his retirement from international cricket.
R Madhavan’s Work Front
On the work front, R Madhavan was most recently seen in Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The film brought him back into mainstream conversation and added another major title to his filmography.
The actor will next be seen in a biopic based on inventor and engineer GD Naidu, in which he plays the titular role. Madhavan also has the Netflix series Legacy in the pipeline.
While his upcoming projects continue to generate interest, his latest golf outing with Brett Lee has given fans a lighter, more personal glimpse of the actor. Their viral exchange has once again shown that Madhavan’s charm travels easily from film sets to fairways.
