Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who suffered a foot injury while playing a reverse sweep shot against Chris Woakes on Day 1 of the fourth India-England Test at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 23, 2025, will not feature in the upcoming two-match Test series between India and the West Indies and will also miss the white-ball tour of Australia.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran on Saturday, September 20, the 27-year-old stumper will need three to four weeks more to get fully fit to play competitive cricket. It is believed that he could make a comeback for Team India during the two-match Test series against South Africa in November 2025.
Post the conclusion of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, India will play
two Tests vs West Indies in the first two weeks of October and then travel to Australia for three ODIs and five T20I matches.
In November India will then play two Tests against 2025 WTC winners South Africa in front of home fans. The first Test between India and South Africa is scheduled to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata from November 14 to 18, and Guwahati’s Barsapara Cricket Stadium will host the second Test from November 22 to 26. The India team will also play three ODIs and five T20Is against South Africa in front of home fans.

In Pant’s absence, Dhruv Jurel will be India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in the two Tests against the Roston Chase-led side, and it will be interesting to see who will be his backup. Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan was added to India’s squad for the fifth Test against England as Pant’s replacement, and the right-handed batter, who has played in the IPL for KKR and CSK, has made a case for his selection again by scoring 197 and 52 not out in the semifinal match of the Duleep Trophy 2025 for South Zone and 64 runs against Australia A in the first innings of the first unofficial Test for India A in Lucknow.
