rayagraj, Jun 2 (PTI) Four people, believed to be members of the same family, were found dead inside a house in Prayagraj on Tuesday, with police suspecting murder after injury marks were found on the bodies, officials said.
DCP (City) Manish Shandilya said police were alerted after residents reported a foul smell emanating from a house in the South Malaka area under the Kotwali limits.
When police reached the spot and opened the house, they found four bodies, which appeared to be around two days old, he said.
Three of the deceased were identified as Virendra Vaishya (70), his wife Anita (65) and their daughter Meenakshi (45), Shandilya said.
The identity of the fourth body has not yet been established. However, police suspect it could be that of Virendra’s
son Abhishek, though a confirmation is awaited.
The officer said preliminary examination revealed injury marks on the bodies, indicating that they may have been murdered.
According to police, Virendra had two sons, Ashwini and Abhishek, and a daughter, Meenakshi.
Shandilya said Ashwini had previously been jailed in a case in the neighbouring Kaushambi district, while his wife had also served a jail term in a fraud case.
“We are verifying whether they are currently in jail or out on bail. If they are outside, their possible involvement in the incident will also be examined,” he said.
Police are scanning CCTV camera footage from the area to identify the possible suspects and establish the sequence of events leading to the deaths, the DCP said. PTI RAJ KIS ARI
