Ryan Rickelton scripted history on Wednesday night, as he ripped apart Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack at Wankhede Stadium. The South African wicketkeeper-batter not only scored his maiden IPL Hundred, but also registered the highest individual score by a Mumbai Indians batter.

Rickelton, who opened the innings on Wednesday alongside Will Jacks, notched up triple figures in just 44 deliveries. On reaching 119 runs, with a six off Praful Hinge in the final over, he surpassed the previous best score for MI by Sanath Jayasuriya. The Sri Lankan legend had scored 114 not out against the Chennai Super Kings on May 14, 2008, at the same venue.

Alongside Ryan Rickelton’s brilliance, Mumbai Indians
found strong support from Will Jacks (46 off 22) and skipper Hardik Pandya (31 off 15). Opening together for the first time, Jacks and Rickelton gave MI the aggressive start they had lacked, racing to 78 in the powerplay and adding 93 in just over seven overs.
Rickelton anchored the innings while maintaining the tempo, bringing up his fifty in 23 balls and needing only 21 more deliveries for the next fifty. He set the tone early, launching Praful Hinge for a towering six in the second over and never easing off.
Even as MI lost Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav (5) and Naman Dhir (22) during a brief slowdown, Rickelton held firm. Jacks impressed on return, while Suryakumar’s struggles continued after falling to Eshan Malinga.
