India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in their third Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, February 15, in Colombo. But according to Colombo’s weather forecast for Sunday, there are high chances of rain playing spoilsport during the India-Pakistan match at R. Premadasa Stadium.
“A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal around 15th February,” read a report from the Department of Meteorology, Sri Lanka, on Friday.
As per AccuWeather, there is a 93 per cent chance of precipitation on Sunday in Colombo.
The India-Pakistan match is scheduled to start at 07:00 PM IST, and for a T20I match to produce a result, a minimum of 5 overs per side contest is a must.
Even though so far no match of the ICC Men’s
T20 World Cup 2026 has faced rain interruptions, a couple of warm-up matches in Colombo last week got washed out due to rain. In fact Pakistan’s warm-up match against Ireland in Colombo on February 4 was the one which got abandoned without a toss due to rain.
Is there a reserve day?
If, due to rain in Colombo on Sunday, the India-Pakistan match gets washed out, then both teams will have to settle for one point each, as there is no reserve match for group stage matches.
According to T20 World Cup 2026 rules, there is no reserve day for group stage and Super 8s matches, but the two semifinals and the final will have a reserve day.
However, every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day with any necessary reduction in overs taking place, and only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match be completed on the reserve day.
