Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was on fire for India in the third ODI against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday (June 20). The 30-year-old pacer from Karnataka bowled 8.2 overs and claimed five wickets for 23 runs. He opened his wicket tally by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz with his very first ball of the match and later removed Rahmat Shah (5), Ibrahim Zadran (11), Darwish Rasooli (1) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (102).
While Gurbaz, Shah and Zadran were caught by Rohit Sharma at first slip, Shreyas Iyer took Rasooli’s catch in Prasidh’s fifth over of the innings. Afghanistan captain Shahidi was also caught by Iyer off the second ball of the 45th over.
The five-wicket haul on Saturday was Prasidh’s maiden five-for in ODI
as well as international cricket. It also made him the first Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in an ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
India have played 16 ODIs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk, since their first match there against Australia on October 9, 1987, but Prasidh is the first Indian bowler to register a five-wicket haul at the venue.
