Winter Warning: Bengaluru Records Its Coldest Day Of 2025, Temperatures Plunges To 12°C

Bengaluru is heading into a week of significantly colder nights, with minimum temperatures expected to dip to 12 degrees Celsius, the lowest December reading since 2016. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast foggy mornings and crisp evenings, as winter settles in and residents prepare for the chill.

The intensity of winter has been gradually increasing in Bengaluru. After a week of mild nights around 16 degrees Celsius, residents can expect temperatures to fall further. According to the IMD, minimum temperatures this week will stay between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius, below the December average of 16.4 degrees Celsius.

“This week, the temperature will remain between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius. After this period, normal winter temperatures

may return,” said C.S. Patil of IMD Bengaluru.

Bengaluru Records First 12-Degree December in Years

If the forecast holds, Bengaluru will record its coldest December minimum since 11 December 2016, when the city also touched 12 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists point to a combination of northeasterly winds, clear skies, dry air, and stable atmospheric conditions as the reason for the chill.

While North and Central India brace for severe cold waves, Bengaluru’s drop will be gentler but still noticeably below normal. The city can expect foggy mornings, gradually giving way to sunlit afternoons.

Bengaluru Winter Forecast

The IMD’s seven-day forecast predicts persistent morning mist, with light fog expected around 14 December. Humidity levels are likely to remain moderate, maintaining the classic Bengaluru winter feel of cool afternoons and crisp nights.

Doctors advise residents to take precautions during this sudden cold spell, particularly for children and the elderly. Warm fluids, hot meals, and appropriate winter clothing are recommended to prevent respiratory issues and stay comfortable during colder mornings and evenings.

Bengaluru is now set for its coldest December in nearly a decade, bringing classic foggy mornings and cool evenings back to the city.
