A cyclonic circulation is developing over the Arabian Sea, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a heavy rainfall warning for South India. Torrential rain continues to threaten Kerala and neighbouring states as the system intensifies.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall across Kerala, interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, with a yellow alert currently in effect for these regions. In addition to the rainfall, winds of 40 to 50 km/h are expected.
Authorities have expressed concern that conditions in Kerala may worsen as the cyclonic activity over the Arabian Sea persists, urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
Rainfall Expected Across States
An alert has been issued for light to heavy rainfall
and strong winds across Kerala until October 18. The IMD forecasts heavy rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in several districts across the state. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are also likely to experience significant rainfall. Heavy showers are predicted in Odisha as well.
For eastern and central India, forecasts extend through October 16, with Odisha, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh expected to see heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
Additionally, thunderstorm and lightning warnings have been issued for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
