Delhi Capitals secured a hard-fought 6-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in the fifth league match of IPL 2026 on Wednesday (April 1), starting their campaign in the ongoing season of the cash-rich league with a victory. In the match played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Delhi Capitals bowled LSG out for just 141 runs in 18.4 overs after opting to field first and then chased down the 142-run target in 17.1 overs.
The national capital-based franchise suffered a top-order collapse (reduced to 4 for 26 in 4.3 overs), but Sameer Rizvi, who came in as an impact player, then joined hands with South African batter Tristan Stubbs (39 runs from 32 balls) and added 119 runs for the fifth wicket to take
the game away from Lucknow.
The win over Super Giants in their first match of the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) helped DC move to the No. 3 position in the points table. The Axar Patel-led side has 2 points from one match played so far.
Four more teams — Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings — also have 2 points each to their credit, but due to net run rate (NRR), Rajasthan Royals and RCB occupy the top two positions, while MI and PBKS are placed fourth and fifth respectively.
