A man visiting Nainital and Kainchi Dham, which is famous as it houses the ashram of the revered saint Neem Karoli Baba, with his family, shared a rather “disappointing” experience. Taking to his X (formerly
Twitter) account, he expressed his strong dissatisfaction over what he described as unreasonably high charges imposed on visitors entering Nainital’s Mall Road.
In the post addressed to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, he shared the details of all the fees he had to pay during his visit. “Dhamiji, me apni family ke saath Kainchi Dham & Nainital ghumne aaya tha. But Nainital pahunchkar ek bahut serious issue face hua,” he began his post. He mentioned that the entry fee at Mall Road was Rs 300 per car as a one-time charge.
He Questions, “Ye Kaunsi Tourist-Friendly Policy Hai?”
But the real issue was that when he needed to travel back to Bhimtal and re-enter Nainital, he had to pay another Rs 300. With two cars, the man claimed he had to spend Rs 1200 just to use the road. That’s not all. He had to pay another Rs 500 per car for parking. He then questioned, “Ye kaunsi tourist-friendly policy hai? Kam se kam time limit ya Rs 100 jaisa reasonable charge rakho. Current system se tourist ko sirf extra burden ho raha hai.”
He Warns That Tourists Will Stop Visiting Nainital Due To Such High Entry Fee
Sharing that if this system continues, people would stop visiting Nainital, he added, “Agar aisa hi chalta raha to Nainital me tourist aana naturally kam ho jayega. Main to kisi ko bhi recommend nahi karunga Nainital iss experience ke baad. Dhami ji, please look into this matter.” Alongside his note, he also posted a picture of the entry fee receipt provided by Nainital’s municipal council. The date mentioned on it was November 27, 2025.

Internet Is Divided Over The Man’s Post On Entry Fee
In no time, his post caught the attention of social media users, many of whom supported the government’s decision to impose such a high entry fee. One user said, “This may not be tourist-friendly, but definitely eco-friendly step.”
“Kyu personal car se jate ho. High charges isliye hai jisse tourist apni personal car se kam jaye. Sab tourist apni khud ki gadi leke jayenge toh traffic badhega, locals ko pareshani, pahado par extra load etc,” another explained.
A different person shared, “Travel should be expensive. It’s a luxury, not a necessity. Avoiding private vehicles reduces traffic, pollution, parking issues, and honking & preserves peace. Imagine 500 vehicles arriving in one day—what a disturbance.”
“This is to stop the cars from crowding the hill station. Mall roads should be vehicle-free,” mentioned another person.
Meanwhile, someone suggested to the man, “Best option hai, Kathgodam me park kar do. Usse upar heavy hill licence hi allow karo.”
“It is a clear loot thing. No digital record, nothing, just cash,” an individual said.
