Patna, Aug 30 (PTI) Two wanted criminals were arrested after an exchange of fire with the police in Patna’s Bihta area on Sunday, officials said.
One of the criminals and two police personnel were injured in the gunfight. A carbine, a country-made rifle, two country-made pistols and 25 cartridges were also seized.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap for the accused, but they spotted the law enforcers and opened fire, to which the personnel retaliated and a gunfight ensued, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma told reporters.
The criminals fired 40 rounds, and the police retaliated with 25.
Finally, the police overpowered two accused, identified as Aneesh Kumar and Piyush Kumar, while their associates managed to escape.
Aneesh Kumar sustained a gunshot wound in his leg, and two personnel were also injured, Sharma said, adding that the injured are being treated.
Both the accused were wanted in several criminal cases. An AK-47 rifle was seized from Aneesh Kumar’s residence last year, the SSP said.
Officials are ascertaining details about the arrested criminals and their absconding associates, he added. PTI PKD ACD
