Haq Box Office Collection Day 2: After a modest start, Haq has pulled off an impressive turnaround at the box office. The Yami Gautam–Emraan Hashmi starrer jumped big on Saturday, signalling that strong
word-of-mouth is finally working in its favour. With audiences connecting to its powerful story rooted in real-life legal drama, Haq now looks set for a solid opening weekend.
Haq, inspired by the life and legal battle of Shah
Bano Begum, is seeing a remarkable rise in collections. The film earned Rs 3.35 crore on its second day, taking its total India net to Rs 5.1 crore and worldwide gross to Rs 6.1 crore. Considering its Rs 50 crore budget, this jump marks a crucial turnaround for the courtroom drama. The film opened to a Rs 1.75 crore Friday, a fair start given the subject. But Saturday’s near-doubling of numbers has clearly shown that audiences are warming up to the film. Trade watchers say such growth points to positive word-of-mouth, especially among viewers who appreciate socially charged narratives.
According to early estimates, Haq maintained a steady climb through the day – with morning occupancy at 7.66%, afternoon shows at 17.46%, evening shows touching 23.71%, and night shows peaking at 28.57%. If this pace continues on Sunday, the film could end its first weekend on a strong note and move closer to “hit” status.
Directed by Subhash Kapoor and produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, Haq explores themes of faith, justice, and women’s rights through a deeply emotional lens. The story follows Shazia (Yami Gautam), whose life falls apart when her husband Abbas Khan (Emraan Hashmi) suddenly remarries and divorces her through triple talaq. The rest of the film follows her relentless fight for justice.
Sheeba Chaddha and Vartika Singh deliver notable supporting performances, adding depth to the narrative.
Despite initial controversy – including a dismissed petition from Shah Bano Begum’s daughter seeking to stop its release – the film’s success suggests that audiences are ready to engage with uncomfortable but important conversations.
With Haq’s content now finding resonance, Sunday’s box office will be key in determining whether this emotional legal drama can sustain its upward trend and justify its ambitious budget.
