Vinicius, who is playing his 50th international match for Brazil on Saturday, now has 10 goals for the senior national team.
The strike against Morocco was also his second FIFA World Cup goal for Brazil. Wearing the No. 7 jersey for the most successful team in World Cup history, Vinicius scored his first goal in football’s biggest tournament against South Korea at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar, on December 5, 2022. In that match as well, he scored Brazil’s opening goal.
Brazil have never lost a match when Vinicius has scored for them. The star forward will be hoping to add a few more goals to his tally in the ongoing Group C clash and help the South American giants begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a victory.
No Neymar for Brazil
Neymar Jr. is not playing for Brazil in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C opener against Morocco. The 34-year-old forward, who is Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer, was not included in either the starting XI or the substitutes’ bench for the high-voltage clash at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
Neymar, who last represented Brazil in 2023, is missing from the matchday squad due to fitness concerns. The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, who has scored eight FIFA World Cup goals for Brazil, suffered a right calf injury while playing for Santos in May 2026 and has yet to regain full fitness.
