Ollie Robinson starred with the ball once again as England secured a series victory over Pakistan with a commanding 194-run win in the second Test at Lord’s on Sunday.
Chasing an unlikely 389, Pakistan were bowled out for 194, giving England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It was England’s first Test series win involving multiple matches since their 2-1 triumph in New Zealand more than a year ago.
Robinson finished with impressive figures of 4-24 from 14 overs, following his outstanding 4-11 in the first innings, when Pakistan were dismissed for just 110.
The Sussex seamer struck twice in four balls early in the innings to reduce Pakistan to 7-2, before Jofra Archer removed captain Babar Azam. However, Saud Shakeel and Shan
Masood steadied Pakistan with a fourth-wicket stand of 97 after the visitors had slipped to 14-3.
Robinson eventually dismissed Masood lbw for 26 off 72 balls after England successfully overturned an initial not-out decision. He then removed Mohammad Rizwan for 3, leaving Pakistan at 115-5.
Shakeel continued to resist and moved into the 90s with two superb hooks for six off Josh Tongue. He reached 96 before pulling Tongue to Harry Brook at deep square leg, ending a fine 122-ball knock that included 13 fours.
Pakistan were 169-7 after Shakeel’s dismissal and were effectively eight down, with injured Imam-ul-Haq unable to bat. Tongue then wrapped up the innings by bowling Khurram Shahzad before having Mohammad Ali caught by Brook in the slips.
Earlier, Mohammad Abbas finally earned a place on Lord’s honours boards after claiming 5-57. The 36-year-old had previously taken three four-wicket hauls at the venue and came close again after finishing England’s first innings with 4-73.
Starting the day with three wickets, Abbas dismissed overnight batter Dan Lawrence for 54 before having Robinson caught behind by Rizwan. The Pakistan seamer was then mobbed by his teammates before kissing the Lord’s turf in celebration.
