Faridabad, May 27 (PTI) A massive fire broke out at a cloth factory in Faridabad on Wednesday, reducing large stocks of garments to ashes, police said.
The blaze erupted at the factory located near Pushta Road between Ismailpur and Basantpur around 6.30 am and the fire department immediately rushed tenders to the spot.
The flames spread rapidly through a large section of the unit, destroying fabric stored inside, they said. Thick smoke billowed from the premises as firefighters battled the blaze for nearly four hours before bringing it under control.
The factory also had a parking area with several vehicles parked inside. With the help of police personnel and local residents, most of the vehicles were moved to safety. However, one car could not
be removed in time and was completely gutted in the fire, police said.
Given the intensity of the blaze, multiple fire tenders were pressed into service. After sustained efforts, firefighters gradually managed to contain the fire.
Factory owner Devendra Awana said the unit stored garments meant for dispatch to various companies. He expressed suspicion over the cause of the blaze, saying he did not believe the fire started on its own and feared someone may have intentionally set it.
βIt is a matter of relief that no one was injured in the incident. Police and fire brigade teams are currently investigating the matter,β a fire officer said. PTI COR NB NB
