It is not unusual to come across funny or random photos displayed on shops or walls while walking through busy city streets. One such image recently caught a passerby’s attention in Bengaluru, leaving him both amused and curious. The photo, shared by a Reddit user, sparked a flurry of reactions online after he posted about his unexpected find.
The image shows a framed picture of a woman with wide, staring eyes fixed above the entrance of a closed pub in Koramangala. The sight looks unusual amid the greenery and modern building design, instantly standing out to anyone passing by. The user explained that he had also spotted similar photos outside shops in the Peenya area and wondered what they meant.
“So there was this one pub in Koramangala which
closed down and today when I was running for my office I saw an interesting photograph on the door of that pub. I saw a similar image in front of some shops in peenya area too. What does this photo signify? Sorry If it hurts religious sentiments, I don’t have much idea on the context of the image,” the caption of the post read.
Meanwhile, the title of the photo reads – “What does this photo means?”

Another explained, “It’s to scare evil spirits.” Someone else joked, “Still better than that gold buyer uncle on BMTC.”
A Modern Take On A Traditional Belief
Several users pointed out that the image resembles a Drishti Bombe or “evil eye” symbol; something traditionally placed on new houses or businesses to ward off bad luck.
A comment explained, “Drishti bombe. People used to put a scary face to protect buildings from bad energy and evil eyes. This is the modern version. Some (in the pic) lady from Andhra posed this for fun. It went viral and people started using it for buildings.”
Another user added, “This was the OG Drishti Gombe protection across Karnataka, Bomma in Telugu, Bommai in Tamil, especially new houses or successful businesses. Now replaced by that lady as it distracts more than this.”
