Bayern Munich star striker Harry Kane bettered the records of Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester City goal-machine Erling Haaland’s records on Saturday as he reached a century of goals
for the Bundesliga club in record time.
Kane netted twice against Werder Bremen in Bayern’s 4-0 triumph to reach the 100-goal mark in just 104 games, edging past the joint record of Ronaldo and Haaland.
“It’s crazy even for me to be honest. It’s an honour to reach 100 goals for this great club and to do it so quickly is something I’m really proud of,” Kane said following the incredible feat.
The England striker is currently averaging two goals per game in the Bundesliga. Bayern celebrated the first weekend of Oktoberfest in style, securing their fifth win in five league games with Kane scoring twice and goals from Jonathan Tah and Konrad Laimer.
Kane had two early opportunities to score as he and Michael Olise sliced through the Bremen defence in the opening minutes. He missed the first chance wide and was thwarted by Arsenal loanee and Bundesliga debutant Karl Hein in the Bremen goal on the second attempt.
Tah gave Bayern the lead 22 minutes in, flicking in an elegant backheel off Luis Diaz’s knee following a sharp cross from Olise.
The visitors aimed to counter-attack but were increasingly pinned into their own penalty area as the first half progressed.
Just before the break, Kane drew a foul from Marco Friedl in the box and calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom corner. This marked his 99th goal in a Bayern shirt. Twenty minutes after the break, he sidefooted a pass from Diaz to reach his century.
Laimer added a fourth goal after a well-executed move three minutes from time. However, it was Kane’s night once again at the Allianz Arena.
There was news of a possible return to England for the national side skipper, however, Kane rubbishes the rumours and expressed his delight with the current scheme of things.
“I’m really happy here at Bayern. I’ve got two years left on my contract and I’m loving every minute. I enjoy playing here in front of the fans, I enjoy the team and the manager, so it’s not in my thought process at all,” he said.
“We haven’t had that conversation yet, but it’s something I’m sure we can discuss. Nobody’s panicking yet and when the time comes, we’ll have an open honest conversation about where I’m at and what the future of this club is. All I can say is we’re heading in the right direction,” the English forward added.
“My family are settled now, my kids are in school. So from that point of view I’m not homesick,” he reiterated.
