Chandrapur, Jun 20 (PTI) The decomposed carcass of a tiger was found near a lake in Pombhurna forest range in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra on Saturday, officials said.
A team of forest guards found the tiger dead during regular patrolling.
All body parts of the tiger were found intact and the forest department ruled out the possibility of poaching or smuggling.
After conducting a formal site inspection, a post-mortem examination was performed on the carcass in the presence of veterinary experts. The carcass was cremated in accordance with established protocols, officials said.
Some injury marks were found on the tiger and it is suspected that buffaloes might have fought and attacked the feline. The tiger might have succumbed to the injuries,
but the exact cause of the death will be known in the autopsy report, they added. PTI COR NP
