Tanvi Sharma won her first ever BWF World Tour Super 300 title and created history on Sunday when she defeated Vietnam’s sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh at the Taipei Open in the title clash. Tanvi has become the youngest ever player in the tournament’s history to win the title.
The 17-year-old rising star defeated Nguyen 21-16, 21-16 in the women’s singles final.
Tanvi is just the second Indian women’s singles player after Saina Nehwal (2008) to have won the competition.
It’s the first time an Indian shuttler has won a title at the event since the mixed doubles pairing of Jwala Gutta and V Diju triumphed during the tournament’s Grand Prix Gold era in 2009.
Olympic medallist and world champion PV Sindhu expressed her delight at the teenager’s title-winning
campaign, calling her a “special player”.
“Couldn’t be prouder of this girl,” Sindhu posted on X (formerly Twitter). “I’ve been saying for years that Tanvi has all the ingredients to become a very special player. The talent, the stroke-making, the courage to take on the best, it’s all there.”

Sindhu said Tanvi now has the experience and mental know-how – the two missing ingredients – to win tournaments.
“The only thing she needed was a little more stability and experience, and it’s been so lovely to watch that come together,” she said.
“This is just the beginning, Tanvi. Keep working, keep believing, and stay hungry. Indian badminton has a very bright future ahead of it with players like you. So proud of you,” she concluded.
