A Bengaluru couple’s decision to move from renting to buying a home has sparked an online discussion about rising rents, EMIs, and how people plan their long-term finances in big cities. Their choice came after they compared how much they were paying every month in rent with what they would pay as a home loan EMI.
The couple had been paying close to Rs 50,000 every month as rent. This made them think about whether continuing to rent was the right move or whether buying a home would make more sense over time. They later shared the different factors they looked at before finalising their first house.
Home Needs Went Beyond Just Budget
In an Instagram video shared by Rajani Naik, she explained how she and her partner started by listing what mattered
most in their home.
She said natural light and proper ventilation were very important, as they had already lived in high-rise apartments and knew how much it affects daily life. They also compared resale flats with new apartments.
At first, resale homes looked cheaper and easier to afford, but after checking more options, they felt a new apartment would be better for long-term value. Builder trust also became important for them, as they wanted a safer and more reliable purchase.
EMI Felt More Useful Than Monthly Rent
One of the biggest points in their decision was comparing rent with EMI. They felt that paying Rs 50,000 every month as rent did not help them build anything for the future.
Even though a higher EMI felt stressful at first, they believed it would slowly help them own a home. They also changed their plan from a 2 BHK to a compact 3 BHK after thinking about future needs like family visits and possible lifestyle changes.
They felt a slightly smaller space now was better than shifting homes again later. Location and travel access also played a role in their final decision.
