Jaipur, Jun 2 (PTI) Rainfall and thunderstorms brought relief from heat in several parts of Rajasthan on Tuesday, and pulled the maximum temperatures below the heatwave levels at most places.
According to the local Met office, Phalodi was the hottest place in the state at 42.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Sri Ganganagar at 41.4 degrees, Bikaner at 41.2 degrees and Jaisalmer at 40.5 degrees Celsius.
A heatwave level indicates that the actual maximum temperature in a region is equal to or more than 45 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days or more.
Temperatures in most other cities stayed below the 40-degree mark.
Chittorgarh recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius, Churu 39 degrees, Pilani 38.5 degrees, Barmer 38.3 degrees, Jodhpur
37.4 degrees, Kota 37.2 degrees and Sikar 37 degrees. Jaipur registered 35.6 degrees Celsius, Ajmer 35.8 degrees, Bhilwara and Dabok 35 degrees each, while Alwar recorded 33.5 degrees Celsius.
The Met department said rainfall was recorded at several places in the 24 hours ending on Tuesday morning.
Chittorgarh received the highest rainfall at 61 mm, followed by Barmer at 26.4 mm and Vanasthali in Tonk district at 20 mm. Several other locations recorded light rainfall.
According to a Met official, a fresh western disturbance is expected to become active on June 3 or 4, which could increase thunderstorm and rainfall activity across several divisions of the state.
Strong winds with speeds of 60-70 kilometres per hour and moderate to heavy rainfall are likely at isolated places, he said.
The prevailing weather conditions are expected to keep maximum temperatures below 43 degrees Celsius across most parts of Rajasthan during the coming week, the Met office said. PTI SDA RUK RUK
