Palakkad (Keralam), Sep 8 (PTI) Police on Tuesday arrested from West Bengal a man accused of killing a woman and her child and trying to dispose of the bodies by chopping them up, putting the parts in sacks and throwing them in the Bhavani river here.
Thrissur City Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh, who is currently heading the investigation, told PTI that the victims were not related to the accused — a native of West Bengal — in any manner, but they had been living together for a short while.
“The woman was not his wife and the child was not his. He had been caught from West Bengal by a team sent from here. He will now be brought back on transit remand,” the officer said.
He further said that the exact reason behind the murders can be ascertained
only after the accused was brought back and questioned.
Body parts of the woman and child were found stuffed in two sacks abandoned in the Bhavani River near Cherakadav in Agali here on Sunday.
Police had said that cattle herders spotted the two sacks lying on a dried-up portion of the river and a strong stench emanating from the sacks aroused their suspicion, following which they alerted the Pudur police.
The body parts were in an advanced stage of decomposition, making identification difficult, police had said. PTI HMP KH
