The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by a week in six states and one Union Territory. However, the enumeration period for West Bengal, Goa, Rajasthan and Lakshadweep is slated to end today.
Today was scheduled to be the last day of enumeration of electors in the SIR for 11 states and three UTs, while the state of Kerala had earlier been given an extension till December 18. The draft electoral roll for all states and UTs but Kerala was scheduled to be published on December 16, except Kerala’s.
According to the Election Commission, the enumeration deadline in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat has been extended till December 14, while the deadline in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh,
and Andaman and Nicobar has been extended to December 18. The revised date of enumeration in Uttar Pradesh is December 26.
The draft roll in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat will now be published on December 19, and those in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andaman and Nicobar will be published on December 23. The date for publication in Uttar Pradesh is December 31.
The ECI also said that the enumeration deadline (today) for Goa, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan and West Bengal remains unchanged, and the draft election rolls for these states will be published on December 16. Additionally, Kerala – which was earlier granted an extension till December 18 – will publish its draft electoral roll on December 23.
“In order to ensure that no eligible elector is left behind, new electors are being encouraged to fill up the Form 6 along with the declaration and submit them to the BLOs or fill the form and declaration online using the ECINet App/website to get their names included in the final electoral rolls, which will be published in February, 2026,” the EC said.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the state has requested the Election Commission of India to grant two more weeks to complete the SIR of electoral rolls. Rinwa said the extension was sought so that district election officers can re-verify entries of deceased voters, those who have shifted to other locations, and voters who remain untraceable.
The ECI had announced the SIR for nine states and three Union Territories on October 27, setting December 4 as the original deadline for submitting forms and December 9 for releasing the draft rolls.
