The skies over Guwahati lit up with power and precision on Sunday as the Indian Air Force (IAF) held a grand flying display at Lachit Ghat, marking the culmination of this year’s Air Force Day celebrations.
While the parade segment of the event took place at Hindon Air Base in October, the aerial display brought the celebrations to the Northeast, showcasing the IAF’s full range of operational capabilities.
Around 25 aircraft formations took to the skies, featuring both fighter jets and transport aircraft from bases in Tezpur, Hasimara, Guwahati, and other nearby stations. The formations included some of the IAF’s most advanced platforms such as the Rafale, Su-30MKI, Tejas (LCA), Jaguar, Mirage 2000, MiG-29, Apache attack helicopter, and transport aircraft like the C-17, C-130, and An-32.
A special highlight was the ‘Barak’ formation, which brought together the Su-30MKI, Rafale, Mirage, and Tejas — a tribute to India’s multi-role fighter fleet.
The display also featured an aircraft formation dedicated to the success of Operation Sindoor, adding symbolic value to the event. The aircrafts painted the sky in red colour, marking the operation and paying a tribute to the heroes behind the success of the mission.
The Sarang Helicopter Display Team returned to the skies after a long hiatus, performing with ALH Mk1 helicopters.

The team had been grounded following an incident in Gujarat, making today’s performance a significant comeback for the skilled aerobatic unit.
From the Mi-17 ‘Dhwaj’ formation to the precision flying of the Tejas ‘Lachit’ and Su-30 ‘Trishul’, each segment demonstrated the IAF’s aerial prowess, teamwork, and technical excellence.
The event, attended by senior officers and dignitaries, reflected the IAF’s readiness, modernisation, and regional presence in the eastern sector.
