A 23-year-old Delhi man landed in trouble for allegedly duping nearly 20 women police constables of ₹24 lakh by posing as a wealthy businessman on Instagram and promising marriage.
The bizarre case has caught the internet’s attention, with social media users comparing him to Ricky Behl, the smooth-talking conman played by Ranveer Singh in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Vikrant Tomar, was arrested by Delhi Police from Burari in connection with an alleged cheating case. Investigators suspect that he targeted women constables belonging to the same batch, gaining their trust by portraying himself as a financially successful businessman with an extravagant lifestyle.
The alleged fraud came to light after a woman
constable posted at Karol Bagh police station filed a complaint accusing Tomar of cheating her on the pretext of marriage. During the investigation, police reportedly uncovered a wider pattern involving several other women constables who may have been targeted using a similar modus operandi.
How The Accused Allegedly Gained The Women’s Trust
According to investigators, Tomar used Instagram to connect with women constables and present himself as a wealthy businessman. He allegedly showcased videos of expensive cars and a luxurious lifestyle to create an impression of financial success and win their confidence.
Police suspect that after establishing relationships with the women and assuring them of marriage, he would ask them for money under different pretexts, including promises of high investment returns.
Investigators also reportedly found that Tomar would rent luxury cars for approximately eight hours at a time and take the women out, allegedly using these outings to reinforce his image as an affluent individual.
The investigation has reportedly identified nearly 20 women constables who may have fallen victim to the alleged scheme. However, several of the women who were allegedly targeted have not yet filed formal complaints, according to reports.
Another detail that has drawn attention is Tomar’s reported live-in relationship with a Delhi Police woman constable who belongs to the same batch. Investigators suspect that he may have obtained information about other women constables through his partner’s batchmates before approaching them. NDTV reported these details as part of its coverage of the case.
Tomar reportedly faces five FIRs and had previously been out on bail, according to the information circulating about the case. The allegations are still subject to the ongoing legal process.
