A serious lapse has come to light at Gayatri Vidyapeeth Higher Secondary School in Bhikangaon of Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh, where several Class 12 students were unable to appear for their English board exam due to alleged negligence by the school management.
According to officials, the school failed to deposit the board examination fees within the stipulated deadline, resulting in students being barred from taking the exam. District Education Officer Mahendra Kanude said the school had filled examination forms for 13 students of Classes 10 and 12, including both regular and private candidates. However, the required fees were not submitted to the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education, Bhopal, on time.
Officials said that an amount
of Rs 3,73,175 was transferred via RTGS on February 9, after the deadline had already passed, which is against the prescribed rules. Taking the matter seriously, District Collector Bhavya Mittal has directed that a letter be sent to the Directorate of Public Education in Bhopal recommending cancellation of the school’s recognition.
The DEO termed the lapse a grave mistake on the part of the school management and said it has adversely affected the students’ future.
Meanwhile, incidents of cheating have also been reported during the ongoing board examinations in the state. Seven cases were registered in Bhopal, while six cases were reported from Morena and Gwalior. After six instances were detected at a single examination centre in Bhopal, action was ordered against the supervisor concerned.
In an effort to curb malpractice and ensure transparency, CCTV cameras have been installed at 226 examination centres across nine districts this year. Live monitoring is being carried out from the board headquarters as well as district-level control rooms.
In a separate incident in Shahdol, a minor was detained during Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s programme for allegedly showing a black flag. As the student remained in custody, he was unable to appear for his Class 12 board examination, triggering local debate and controversy.
