In the second T20I played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Friday (January 23), riding on half-centuries from captain Suryakumar Yadav (82) and Ishan Kishan (76), India chased down the target of 209 runs in just 15.2 overs for the loss of six wickets.
India’s successful run chase of 209 runs in 15.2 overs on Friday helped them become the first full-member team in the world to chase down the target of 200-plus in a T20I match with more than 25 balls to spare.
The previous record of completing a 200+ run chase in a T20I match with the most balls to spare by a full-member nation was in the name of Pakistan. On
March 21, 2025, Pakistan chased down the target of 205 runs against New Zealand in 16 overs for the loss of only one wicket.

Surya breaks Kohli’s record
Surya scored 82 runs from 37 balls for India in the 2nd T20I against New Zealand in Raipur on Friday. The score of 82 runs by Surya helped him break Virat Kohli’s record of the highest score in T20Is by an Indian skipper against New Zealand.
Kohli played a knock of 65 runs from 42 balls against the Kiwis in Rajkot on November 4, 2017.
