A UK travel vlogger visiting Amritsar had an uncomfortable encounter when a local man allegedly “harassed” his wife on the street. The couple was waiting for their Uber when the man approached and asked
for her phone number.
The incident was captured on camera and the video of it was later shared by Alex Wanders on Instagram. It has drawn widespread attention and eventually police reached out to the couple.
‘Why Are You Asking For Her Number?’: Confrontation Caught On Camera
In the video, Alex directly confronts the man, saying, “Why are you asking for her phone number? What you did is very strange. You are very strange. You approach a random female by herself and ask for her phone number within two seconds; that’s very strange. Yeah, you shouldn’t do that again, ok. You are a bit crazy.”
The man claims to be a student and tries to calm the situation by referring to Alex’s wife as “sister.” Amina, Alex’s wife, is heard saying, “No number. Bye bye,” to which the man replies, “Ok, no problem” before he walks away. “He literally came over to us and asked for my number,” Amina says in the video.
Alex remarks, “What an absolute weirdo,” while the overlay text on the video reads, “Creepy man in India harasses my wife for her phone number.”
‘How Is This Acceptable In India?’
Alex explained the situation in detail on Instagram: “Just another ‘normal day’ in India. Amritsar, Punjab. We were standing peacefully on the side of the road waiting for our Uber when a random guy came over and started harassing Amina, asking for her number, and getting close to her right in front of me. We didn’t capture this on video but Amina began filming directly afterwards because she didn’t feel safe.”
He also added, “This is the moment I confronted him, he suddenly forgot English even though two seconds earlier he was speaking it perfectly. Maybe better me. How is this seen as acceptable in modern day India?”

How Social Media Reacted
In the comment section, many praised Alex for confronting the man and showing his face while some advised filing a police complaint.
One user commented, “Thank you for teaching him a lesson and showing his face.”
Another advised, “File police complaint against him.”
Someone else said, “I’m so embarrassed for my people, I am very sorry you had to experience this,” while a person offered safety advice, “100, 112, and 181 are emergency helpline numbers. Please call them whenever you face such problems. I am sorry that you had to go through this situation.”
Police Step In
After the video gained attention, the official Instagram account of Amritsar Police asked the couple to provide additional details so that proper action could be considered.
