Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from her husband Keith Urban after nearly two decades of marriage. The news comes just a day after reports surfaced that the couple had separated. According to court filings obtained by PEOPLE, Kidman submitted the divorce papers in Nashville on September 30, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, married in June 2006 after first meeting at a Los Angeles gala in 2005. Together, they share two daughters—Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
A Marriage Marked by Highs and Strains The couple had often spoken about the strength of their bond. Kidman told PEOPLE in 2024 that she was “so lucky that I have Keith who’s just my love, my deep, deep love.” She also
credited him with helping her through nervous moments before public appearances, including the Met Gala.
Despite this public display of affection, insiders reveal that their relationship had been facing challenges. Sources told PEOPLE that Kidman had been “fighting to save the marriage” while leaning on her sister Antonia and her family for support.
Living Apart and Growing Distance
The divorce filing follows a summer spent apart, with Kidman filming Practical Magic 2 in London while Urban was on the road for his High and Alive World Tour. A source close to the couple shared that the separation “really hasn’t been a secret,” as the two had been living separately for some time.
While one source noted that Kidman did not want the marriage to end, another claimed those close to Urban felt that the split was inevitable. The divorce also comes just three months after Kidman publicly marked their 19th wedding anniversary with a heartfelt Instagram post, where she captioned a photo of the pair, “Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️ @KeithUrban.”
Representatives for both stars have yet to comment on the divorce proceedings.
