Early Life, Education and Move to the United States
Raj Nidimoru was born in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, and spent his early years in the temple town before moving to Visakhapatnam
for his schooling. He comes from a Telugu-speaking family with a strong academic background, a foundation that shaped much of his disciplined and curious worldview.
After completing his education in India, Raj left for the United States in pursuit of higher studies and better professional opportunities. He holds a master’s degree in Computer Science and worked in the tech industry for several years. His time in America deeply influenced both his creative instincts and his storytelling lens.
It was during his years in the US that Raj met Krishna DK, who would go on to become his closest creative partner. What began as a shared love for cinema evolved into one of the most successful filmmaking duos in India.
The Rise of Raj & DK: A Creative Force in Indian Cinema
Raj Nidimoru is best known as one half of Raj & DK, the filmmaker duo behind some of India’s most genre-defining films and series. Their work is celebrated for its unique blend of dark humour, gripping drama, offbeat characters and sharp commentary on society.
Their journey began with indie films like Flavors (2003) and 99 (2009), which quickly earned them a reputation for unconventional storytelling. But it was Shor in the City (2011) — a gritty anthology set in Mumbai — that established them as filmmakers to watch.
What followed was a remarkable run of successes that cemented Raj & DK’s reputation for genre-blending storytelling. Their 2013 film Go Goa Gone, India’s first mainstream zombie comedy, quickly achieved cult status for its quirky humour and inventive premise. They then ventured into slick action-comedy with A Gentleman (2017), further proving their command over commercial yet innovative filmmaking. But it was their acclaimed Amazon Prime Video series The Family Man (2019–2021), starring Manoj Bajpayee, that transformed them into household names. Seamlessly weaving espionage, humour, and emotional complexity, the show not only broadened their audience but also set a new benchmark for original Indian OTT content.
The second season of The Family Man introduced Samantha Ruth Prabhu to the digital space in her critically acclaimed role as Raji. The series marked the beginning of her professional connection with Raj, which would eventually evolve into a personal relationship.
Raj & DK continued their success streak with Farzi (2023) and Citadel: Honey Bunny (2024), expanding their reach internationally through collaborations with Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
Personal Life: Marriage, Divorce and New Beginnings
Raj Nidimoru was previously married to Shhyamali De. According to reports, the former couple finalised their divorce in 2022 after years of living apart. Raj has largely kept his personal life away from the public eye, maintaining a reputation for privacy despite his high-profile career.
His association with Samantha Ruth Prabhu reportedly began as a professional collaboration, but their closeness grew over the past year. Samantha’s occasional social media posts featuring Raj sparked questions about their relationship, which intensified in 2024. The couple had also taken a trip to the US together and she was spotted with his sister.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu was earlier married to Naga Chaitanya and the two got divorced in 2021. Chaitanya is now married to actress Sobhita Dhulipala. Meanwhile, Samantha and Raj reportedly tied the knot in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on December 1, 2025.
