Fans of Indian football can breathe a sigh of relief as the ISL club had a crucial meeting with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who assured the sides that the Indian top-tier competition would run per schedule.
The ISL Clubs’ club-led model is reported to have received the green light by Mandaviya, with the AIFF set to receive ₹15.4 annually, in contrast to the legacy Genius Sports Framework.
The finalisation of a new financial framework between clubs and the AIFF for the next four years marked the highlight of the meeting that could have massive implicaltions on the nation’s football future.
In lines with the proposal, each club will pay a sum of ₹1.1 crore per season as a fixed fee to the All Indian Football Federation. The structure
seems feasible considering that the clubs maintain an infrastructure, and that a collective agreement would bolster their fancies.
Most notable, the proposed value of the club-collective is higher than that of the Genius Sports Framework, which came in around the Rs 12.4 Crore mark.
The move could have far-reaching implications as it could be the fillip that the sport in the nation requires with clubs taking up more control in the new structure, which would bring in higher revenues and witness the surplus being pumped back into the game.
The ISL remains the top-flight for the sport with the I-League in tow, and is set for a reboot in their bid to avoid a recurrence of the nightmare the national system had to endure during their years in the doldrums with the future of the league hanging by a thread. The proposed structure is promised to also ensure security for the teams and the players with a steadier framework in place.
