The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Wednesday its plans to introduce central contracts for its senior team players and launch a scouting tournament aimed at discovering young talent for its T20 league.
These decisions were made during the MCA’s apex council meeting, which also approved the creation of an inter-college tournament named after former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar.
In a statement, the MCA expressed that the Apex Council has made several forward-looking decisions aimed at fostering a strong, inclusive, and sustainable cricketing ecosystem in Mumbai. These initiatives aim to enhance player development, ensure their long-term well-being, and establish clear pathways for emerging talent to reach elite levels of the game.
The inter-college tournament is intended to nurture young players at the collegiate level. Meanwhile, the scouting tournament for the eight-team T20 league will help create a clear and merit-based pathway for young players to advance to competitive levels.
MCA president Ajinkya Naik stated that central contracts will provide players with stability and confidence, while the T20 scouting tournament will ensure that Mumbai continues to identify and nurture talent suited for the future of the game.
Naik added that the vision is to establish a robust pathway from college cricket to the highest levels of the sport. Naming the Inter-College Tournament after Dilip Vengsarkar reflects the values of excellence and leadership that the MCA wants young cricketers to aspire to.
