Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal sent a message of unity, fight, and belief after his team’s trembling nine-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday.
This was the team’s third consecutive loss of the season, and the fifth in the last six games. The manner of the defeat was a bigger concern than any stat — only two days ago, DC’s bowlers (albeit without the injured Lungi Ngidi) conceded an IPL record 265-run chase, and here at the same ground, the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the batting was bowled out for only 75 runs, having been 8/5 at one stage.
“Stay together more than ever now @DelhiCapitals – really very tough to take, but we must keep fighting and keep believing,” Jindal wrote on X.
The franchise is jointly owned by
the GMR Group and Jindal’s JSW Sports, each holding an equal fifty percent stake. The corporate co-owners introduced a two-year rotational management agreement starting in 2025.
For the 2026 IPL season, the GMR Group is in direct control of the men’s team’s day-to-day cricketing operations. Meanwhile, JSW Sports currently oversees the women’s WPL squad during this cycle, before regaining control of the men’s side in 2027.
What is going wrong for DC?
DC have one of the best squads in the league, which they showed with back-to-back wins to start the season. Their poor performances are a result of some poor execution and a bit of misfortune.
Their opening spot for KL Rahul’s partner has been a major issue. Ben Duckett pulled out of the season and the likes of Pathum Nissanka and — in the RCB game — Sahil Parakh have failed to impress.
The bowling was quite reliant on Mitchell Starc for powerplay wickets but the Aussie speedster was injured and will only play starting in May. In the last two games, they also lost their best bowler from the remainder of the pack, Ngidi.
If Starc and Ngidi can return together, DC will look a much better team, but until then, they’ll need their batting and spinners to somehow step up and keep them in a race against the Rajasthan Royals on May 1.
