Leonardo DiCaprio has come out strongly in support of his One Battle After Another co-star Chase Infiniti. She was left out of the Best Actress nominations at the Academy Awards this year. After the nominees were announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 98th Oscars on January 22, the Hollywood star praised the young actress and said the film would not exist without her.
“She was the fabric of this movie. She was the heart and soul,” the 51-year-old actor said while talking about Chase to the Associated Press. He added, “There would be no One Battle After Another without the performance that she gave.” While Leonardo earned a Best Actor nomination for his role in the film, the 25-year-old star did not make it to the final
list in the Best Actress category.
Leonardo DiCaprio On Chase Infiniti Not Securing A Nomination
Despite not securing a nomination, the Titanic actor shared that his co-star handled the situation with much grace and maturity. “A young actress coming in to fill a role that was her first film and carrying the entire emotional weight of this movie was a near-impossible task. She should be so proud of herself, and we’re all so proud of her,” he mentioned.
In One Battle After Another, Leonardo and Chase play a father-daughter duo, Bob and Willa Ferguson, who are on the run from a corrupt military officer. Besides the duo, the black comedy action thriller written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, also featured Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor and Regina Hall.
The movie received a total of 13 Oscar nominations, making it the second-highest this year after Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which earned 16 nominations. Besides the Wolf of Wall Street star, the supporting cast, including Benicio, Sean and Teyana, earned nominations for their stints in One Battle After Another. The director was nominated for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Leonardo DiCaprio Expresses Gratitude For His Oscar Nomination
After Leonardo learned about his eighth Oscar nomination, he expressed his gratitude for the honour. In a statement to E! News, he said, “Making this film was one of the most meaningful and collaborative experiences of my life. It was made possible by the generosity, courage, and talent of an extraordinary cast—Teyana, Chase, Benny, Sean, Regina—and by the commitment of our entire crew.”
He praised Paul’s vision and talent, saying, “He brought to life a complex story that feels deeply relevant to the world we’re living in, and I’m honoured the Academy has recognised it at this moment.” Leonardo concluded by congratulating his fellow nominees and thanking the Academy for recognising the film.
