The Indian Army recently carried out a high-intensity field exercise in the dense jungles of Arunachal Pradesh to demonstrate its advanced medical response capabilities in remote and challenging terrain.
What was the drill about?
The drill simulated a real-time emergency situation that required the rapid establishment of a fully functional medical post, testing the Army’s ability to deliver critical healthcare in difficult, inaccessible regions.
Army medical teams navigated steep gradients, thick forests and unpredictable weather conditions to establish a self-sustained medical facility capable of performing life-saving interventions and casualty stabilisation. The exercise highlighted the Army’s capacity to operate independently for extended periods, ensuring uninterrupted
medical support in areas with limited communication and evacuation infrastructure.
Equipped with essential medical equipment and supplies, the temporary setup demonstrated how teams could deliver advanced care without reliance on external support, showcasing the Army’s adaptability and logistical efficiency in high-stress environments.
Training in trauma and emergency care
A key component of the exercise was trauma management under field constraints. Personnel practised patient triage, emergency resuscitation and coordinated teamwork in line with contemporary battlefield and disaster response protocols.
The scenario-based training not only tested individual competence but also emphasised teamwork, speed and precision, factors critical to saving lives in both combat and humanitarian operations.
The exercise also provided valuable insights into refining standard operating procedures for medical evacuation and treatment in extreme conditions, reinforcing the synergy between Army doctors, paramedics and field units.
Operation readiness
The initiative underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to readiness, resilience and humanitarian service across all operational theatres. Through such exercises, the Army continues to enhance its preparedness for both combat support and disaster response, living up to its enduring motto – “Forever in the Line of Duty.”
