Karwa Chauth 2025: Vrat Katha

Veeravati couldn’t tolerate the hunger while fasting and fainted. All of her brothers were aware of the situation and were unable to see her sister in this condition. They also knew that she would not eat anything until the moon appeared in the sky, so they decided to show her a fake moon so that she could eat.
One brother climbed the banyan tree with a lamp and a sieve to show her the light’s reflection, leading her to believe it is the actual moon. They all requested her to break her fast because the moon had appeared in the sky, so they took her to the terrace and showed her the moon.
She believed them and broke her fast but later found out signs that indicated her husband’s death.
Then Goddess Indrani, Indra’s wife, arrived to console her, and she enquired about her husband’s death on this auspicious day. She begged to bring his life back, but she was unable to do so, and she explained that she broke her fast without seeing and offering Arghya to the moon, which was the cause of her husband’s death.
Then Indrani encouraged her to worship Chauth Mata and keep the entire year’s Chaturthi fast, since this was the only way to restore his life. After a year, Chauth mata blessed her and her husband’s life was restored.
