Harsh Singh defeated Australia’s Joshua Katz 10-0 on Friday (July 31) to win India’s second gold medal in judo at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026. The 23-year-old Indian dominated the men’s 60kg gold-medal bout against his Australian opponent from start to finish, etching his name in the history books.

The 23-year-old, competing in his maiden Commonwealth Games, claimed the biggest title of his career with a composed and tactically astute performance against the Australian Olympian, who was widely regarded as the favourite for the gold.

After a closely fought contest in which neither judoka was able to establish a clear advantage, Harsh struck decisively with just 41 seconds remaining on the clock.
He executed a superb waza-ari — the second-highest scoring technique in judo — to take the lead, and then defended resolutely for the remainder of the four-minute bout to secure a memorable victory.
Before Harsh, Asmita Dey had also won a gold medal for India in the women’s 48kg category.
India had never won a gold medal in judo at the previous editions of the Commonwealth Games, but two Indian judokas have now secured the top spot at the ongoing Games.
Prior to defeating Joshua Katz in the final, Harsh secured one-sided victories over Chikondi Kathewera in the Round of 16, Alan Monthouel in the quarterfinal and Pedro Carlos Antun Neto in the semifinal.
India will have a chance to win one more gold medal in judo on Friday, with Yamini Maurya set to take on England’s Acelya Toprak in the women’s 57kg final.
5 gold medals for India at CWG 2026
Harsh’s gold medal on Friday evening was India’s fifth gold at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026.
Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu was the first Indian to win a gold medal at CWG 2026. The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist clinched the top prize in the women’s 48kg category on Sunday, July 26. Mirabai now has four Commonwealth Games gold medals, having previously won gold in 2018, 2022 and 2016, along with a silver in 2014.
After Mirabai opened India’s gold-medal account on Sunday, Sharmila Dhankar won gold in the women’s F57 shot put event on Monday (July 27), while Dilip Gavit bagged gold in the men’s T47 100m event on Wednesday (July 29).
