Litton Das is the current captain of Bangladesh’s T20I team, and on Saturday, September 20, he broke Shakib Al Hasan’s record of 2551 runs to become the highest run-getter for Bangladesh in the 20-over format of the game. Litton needed 19 runs in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 Super 4s match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Dubai to overtake Shakib, and he achieved the objective by scoring 23 runs from 16 balls as a No. 3 batter in the 169-run chase.
During his 18-year-long T20I career for Bangladesh, Shakib played 129 matches, whereas the ongoing Asia Cup match in Dubai is Litton’s 114th T20I for Bangladesh. He has crossed the 50-run mark 15 times in T20Is and also holds the record for hitting the most sixes for Bangladesh in the shortest format
of the game.

Earlier in the first half of the match, pacer Mustafizur Rahman equalled Shakib’s tally of most wickets for Bangladesh in T20Is.

Rahman opened his wicket account on Saturday by dismissing Kusal Perera on the fourth ball of the 14th over. Perera was caught behind by Bangladesh’s T20I captain and wicketkeeper Litton Das after adding 16 runs to his team’s total.
On the fourth ball of his last over of the match, Rahman dismissed Kamindu Mendis. Mendis was caught by Litton after scoring 1 run from 2 balls. Wanindu Hasaranga scored two runs on the next ball, but on the last one, in an attempt to hit a six, he was caught by Tanzid Hasan near the boundary ropes.
In Bangladesh’s next Super 4s match, which is set to take place against India in Dubai on Wednesday, September 24, Rahman will have a chance to become Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is. One wicket in the next two matches for Bangladesh will also help him become the first Bangladeshi to dismiss 150 batters in T20Is.
As of now, only three bowlers – Rashid Khan of Afghanistan, Tim Southee of New Zealand and his teammate Ish Sodhi – have picked up 150+ wickets in T20Is.
