Ranchi, May 30 (PTI) A 34-year-old postgraduate medical student of the state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his house in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district on Saturday, police said.
The student, identified as Sanal Sanu Barwar, was a resident of Kanthal More in Daladali outpost area and was alone in the house.
“When his parents, who had gone outside, returned home this morning and knocked on the main door several times, he did not respond, following which they alerted the police,” the outpost’s office-in-charge Satya Prakash said.
“We broke the door and entered the house, where the victim was found lying… He was first taken to a local hospital and then to RIMS, where doctors declared
him dead on arrival,” he said.
The deceased was a first year Master of Surgery (MS Surgery) student at RIMS and had taken admission in December 2025, a spokesperson of the hospital said.
“During preliminary investigation, family members informed the police that the victim suffered from high blood pressure and had been taking regular medication for it. In that case, he might have died due to an overdose of medicines,” the officer said.
“The exact cause of his death, however, could be ascertained only after we receive the autopsy report. No suicide note was found in the house. Further investigation into the case is underway,” he said. PTI RPS RPS ACD
