A 27-year-old man died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow after months of domestic disputes and what his family claims was repeated inaction and hostility from the local police.
Prakhar Gupta, a paint
businessman’s son, married Priya Gupta in a love marriage. He had reportedly been under severe emotional distress as tensions between the two families escalated. He was found hanging this week.
Police’s ‘Blue Drum’ Remark
The family alleged that Naka police station SHO Shrikant Rai told them that “boys are heard only when they are stuffed into a blue drum or thrown into a ditch.”
According to the victim’s family, tensions peaked on October 13, when Priya’s relatives, allegedly five women and 14-15 men, arrived at Prakhar’s house and assaulted him and his mother.
Gaurav, a representative speaking for the family, said, “They beat the boy and his mother. Naka police personnel were present there. The family filed a complaint, but the inspector told them there would be no hearing for the boy’s side. He said, ‘When the boy is thrown into a blue drum, only then will he be heard.’”
The family claims they immediately called 112, and officers recorded the incident, but the recording was never released to them.

Mother Claims Police Refused To Register FIR
Prakhar’s mother, Sunita Gupta, alleges that on October 23, when she attempted to file an FIR, SHO Shrikant Rai refused, telling her, “You are the mother of a boy. No complaint will be filed for you.”
She alleges the police ignored injuries to her, her son, and her husband.
“They beat my son, me, and my husband at 2 AM inside our house. When the police took my son downstairs, they beat him again. The washing machine and sink were broken,” she said.
The family says they approached the Kesarbagh SCP, who reportedly instructed the Naka Police Station to register the FIR immediately, but it was still not filed.
Mental Decline Followed By Suicide
Prakhar reportedly left the police station distressed, and his family says his mental state deteriorated further. Two days later, Prakhar died by suicide at home.
Gaurav said the family will meet the Lucknow Police Commissioner at 11 AM on Thursday to demand action.
Sunita Gupta said, “He used to have constant disputes with his wife. He died out of distress.”
So far, Lucknow Police has not issued an official statement.
Meerut Blue Drum Murder Case
The Meerut Blue Drum Murder shocked Uttar Pradesh in March earlier this year. Former Merchant Navy Officer Saurabh Rajput was allegedly killed by his wife Muskan Rastogi and her suspected lover, Sahil. According to police investigations, the accused duo allegedly drugged Saurabh, stabbed him to death, and then dismembered his body, placing the parts inside a blue plastic drum filled with cement and sand to mask the smell and delay discovery. The drum was hidden inside their home for days until police uncovered the crime.
In November, while in custody, Muskan gave birth to a baby girl she named Radha. Her husband’s family is seeking a DNA test to confirm the infant’s parentage.
